Gastric Balloon or Sleeve gastrectomy?
The answer depends on the patient’s condition. Both operations are very different. Balloon can be applied to patients who has under BMI 35. Our practice is for patients with BMI below 30.
1 – Adjustable balloon; stays in the stomach for about a year. The patient can lose a maximum of 30 kilograms. Weight gain after balloon removal is very common. Since there is no change in the patient’s appetite, the patient’s willpower must be very strong.
2 – Balloon not adjusted; not much preferred. The reason is that the patient is very uncomfortable because of inflated so much in the first time and in the first days, the balloon is removed in case of increased discomfort. Naturally, it is not right to apply a balloon for our patients who are above BMI 35 and want to lose weight.
Because it is almost impossible for the patient on BMI 35 to lose weight with diet. By gaining more weight after each diet, the condition enters a vicious circle.
